Thelma has just moved away from her religious family in Norway to study in Oslo, when she is suddenly struck by a powerful seizure in the reading hall. At the same time she falls in love with Anja, a fellow student. As she is overwhelmed by emotions she does not dare acknowledge, the seizures come more often and are more dangerous, and it becomes clearer that they are a symptom of inexplicable, often dangerous, supernatural abilities.
